I’ve made this dish a few times over the last months, and we really enjoyed it, so wanted to share it here with you. This easy to make roasted cauliflower recipe with turmeric, cumin and garlic seasoning is a perfectly savoury, healthy and allergy-friendly side dish to accompany any meal!
What makes this dish so healthy?
It combines 3 power foods that boost your body’s health – cauliflower, turmeric and garlic.
The health benefits of cauliflower
Cauliflower is one food you want to add to your diet if you aren’t already eating it. Touted as the world’s healthiest food, it provides you with a wide range of vitamins, nutrients, phytochemicals and antioxidants. It promotes heart, brain and digestive health, is anti-inflammatory, and similar to broccoli it has been shown to fight off cancerous cells.
There are many creative ways you can prepare cauliflower beyond just roasting or steaming – cauliflower rice, mashed cauliflower puree, buffalo cauliflower bites, and tempura are just a few ideas!
The health benefits of Turmeric
Also known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, turmeric, which contains the healing compound curcumin, is also a powerful cancer blocker and can aid with pain relief as well as both digestive and emotional health. It can even prove an effective replacement for steroid treatment for certain conditions!
There are lots of recipes with turmeric to help you integrate it into your diet. Because it has a relatively mild flavour, I like to add turmeric to soups, sauces, rice and roast vegetables. You’ll even find recipes online for making turmeric tea!
Why You Should Eat More Garlic
Garlic is another nutrient-packed food that boasts decent amounts of several nutrients, offers immune boosting benefits, and can even have a positive impact on your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It also contains antioxidants that may stave off dementia and Alzheimer’s. And it’s delicious! I love to roast a few cloves with a drizzle of olive oil and some sea salt.
Making this dish is easy. For your prep work, chop the cauliflower into largish slices or chunks and crush 2-3 cloves of garlic. I have to tell you that I LOVE my new garlic rocker which makes it so easy to crush garlic. I made a double batch of this dish and was able to crush 5 cloves of garlic effortlessly in just seconds. And, more importantly, the cleanup is literally just a quick rinse under the tap with a soapy sponge and some water. I immediately bought one for my best friend, I like it that much.
When your ingredients are ready, mix the olive oil, turmeric, cumin and crushed garlic together in a small bowl, and then rub it over the cauliflower. Finish with a a sprinkle of salt, and spread the seasoned cauliflower across a lined baking sheet, ready for baking.
Here’s the recipe so you can get started! To complete the meal, why not try our recipe for crispy tofu.
- 1 head of cauliflower, chopped
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp salt
- Pre-heat the oven to 180 C.
- Rinse and chop the cauliflower and set aside.
- Crush the garlic if you are using whole fresh garlic cloves.
- In a bowl combine the olive oil, spices and garlic.
- Drizzle the mixture across the cauliflower and mix so it is well covered.
- Spread the cauliflower across a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (you may need to split it across two baking sheets).
- Bake the cauliflower for 15-20 minutes, or until the cauliflower starts to brown.
- Remove from the oven and serve warm with your meal.

Roasted cauliflower (one of my favs) + strong inflammation fighters? What’s not to love…Also this looks like a great recipe for getting used to the flavor of turmeric, I assume the garlic, salt, and cumin help mask it a bit?

Hi Jenn!
Yes, I totally agree! You can’t really go wrong with this combo!
What I love about this recipe is that you can tailor the seasoning to who you will be serving the dish to, so you can play up or down the flavours according to what will go best with the crowd. The ultimate taste is not heavy on the turmeric in this recipe, so it is definitely a good way to train your palate to like the flavour. Especially if you go heavy on the garlic like I do. 😉
