Kids and parents are counting down as Halloween draws near, with store shelves lined with all kinds of chocolatey, gooey, nutty deliciousness in preparation for the big day. But for kids living with food allergies and other dietary restrictions like celiac disease and diabetes, (and for any mom who tries to simply limit sugar intake from a health consciousness perspective) these Halloween treats are a forbidden fruit that could prove a life threatening risk. Luckily, there is a growing movement to make Halloween inclusive and safe for everyone, and there is still time for you to get involved! I’m excited to be partnering with Oriental Trading to give you the opportunity to win everything you need to support the Teal Pumpkin Project in your neighbourhood this Halloween with our Teal Pumpkin Project Giveaway. (This contest has closed)

Teal Pumpkin Project #Giveaway! Win everything you need to promote a safe and inclusive halloween for kids with food allergies in your neighbourhood. Accidentally Crunchy and Oriental Trading are partnering up to give one winner a kit with everything you and your neighbours need to make your own teal pumpkin decorations to mark participating houses, plus more than 200 kid-approved, non-food treats for you and your neighbours to hand out

This isn’t the first time I’m writing about FARE‘s  Teal Pumpkin Project, one of my favourite initiatives for promoting food allergy awareness. How do you participate? It’s easy!

  1. Commit to having a non-food treat available on Halloween night for those children who, for whatever reason, cannot have the candy option.
  2. Put a blue pumpkin in your window or on your doorstep to show that you are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project – it can be as simple as a paper print out if you don’t have the patience or time to paint an actual pumpkin.
  3. Offer trick-or-treaters the option of a candy or non-food treat, especially for the kids that you know have special dietary needs.

Teal Pumpkin Project Pledge | accidentallycrunchy.com

This is a great initiative that advocates inclusiveness during Halloween for kids who suffer from food allergies and other dietary restrictions, without having to deal with the pressure of scouring allergen labels for safe treats. And I love the selection of amazing Halloween toys and games that Oriental Trading offers, and their active promotion of the Teal Pumpkin Project.

Thanks Sarah! I just convinced by PTA to host a “Teal trunk or treat” (no food or play-doh) at our school so this windfall will go towards that great event. So excited!

That is amazing, well done! So glad it worked out that you won! It can be hard to convince people to get on board for something like that, but having it go smoothly can guarantee that it will be a repeat for next year – and I am sure that showing up with a bunch of free goodies and decorations can help with that!

      Have a Happy Halloween!
